Come to Madison, WI to help support a team of 19 VISTAs in schools throughout the state, working to close the achievement gap by involving families and community members as partners in education. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction VISTA project seeks to close the achievement gap through partnerships, that is, to enhance the capacity of low-income schools and improve student achievement by developing practices that involve families, the school, and the community. The Department of Public Instruction recognizes that the main reason to create family-school-community partnerships is to help all youth succeed in school and in later life—that when parents, teachers, students, and others view one another as partners in education, a caring community forms around students and begins its work. Members serve in low-income schools around the state, both urban and rural. The DPI VISTA Leader, serving out of the DPI office in Madison, will lead and support DPI VISTAs in this mission.

Work for ProgressWhat if we really could kick our dependence on oil not just foreign oil and make the shift to clean, renewable energy? What if the health care you receive had everything to do with your health and nothing to do with your bank account? What if they held an election and everyone came? Sound like a challenge? Of course it does. Society doesnt change overnight. But when someone or more to the point, lots of someones speak up and take action, change can happen. Thats where you come in. If you want a job where you can work to solve problems each day, consider a job with U.S. PIRG (Public Interest Research Group). U.S. PIRG is a federation of nonprofit groups, based in states across the country, and we tackle issues ranging from the environment to energy to health care reform and more. The goal of a PIRG Fellowship is to help develop leaders for the public interest movement.
